Handcrafted Excellence & Pure Silk
From Silk to Something Special
My wall art is hand-painted on pure silk, using the same careful Serti technique as my silk scarves. The silk allows the colours to flow beautifully, creating a luminous and distinctive artwork.
My wall art begins with beautiful pure silk, carefully chosen in 5 or 8 momme thickness. I love the softness and gentle transparency of silk, especially the way light can shine through the colours and make the artwork come alive.
I use a beautiful silk-painting technique called Serti. In simple terms, I create delicate lines of water-based resist around parts of my design. These lines act like little pathways, helping to keep the different colours where I want them while I paint.
Then the creative part begins.
I paint each area by hand, layering colours and watching them blend and develop. I love allowing the silk to participate in the creative process, because sometimes the colours create beautiful surprises of their own.
Once the painting is finished, the colours are carefully fixed to preserve their vibrancy. I then mount the silk onto a lightweight 1 mm board, ready to be framed and enjoyed.
The result is more than a picture.
It is a piece of New Zealand’s beauty, transformed through silk, colour, light, imagination and love.
